Park(ing) Day San Francisco
Park(ing) Day San Francisco recently turned more than 20 parking spaces across San Francisco into temporary parks.
Parking spaces are surely a less productive use of valuable urban land than parks, especially when those parking spaces exist in excess of market demand. Parks produce valuable climate and health benefits for multiple users simultaneously. Parking spaces offer only a transport benefit, to typically a single individual. Am I suggesting that all parking be replaced by parks? No, of course not, but I am suggesting that a more rational allocation of urban open space between paved parking and green parks would produce better urban life and more vibrant cities. Your thoughts?
